A Week Of Slight Improvements

A conversation last night with a wonderful friend spawned an idea.

It might make me cranky, but I'm hoping it will make me a slightly better person.

Here's what I plan to do for the next week: every day, I will choose one area of my life that I've been meaning to be better about. And then I will be better, three times in a row.

That doesn't make much sense, so let me give you an example.

Lately, I've been swamped with life (excuse alert!), and felt like I've been on my own little hamster wheel. Yes, those are mice. I don't use Google images, though, so the fact that I had a picture of any rodent on a wheel is kind of amazing so suck it up.

My point is, I've been really bad at keeping in touch with people I care about. Tomorrow, I'll fix that by writing three letters, cards, or emails to people who matter to me. The day after that, I will focus on another area of my life that needs a little attention, and so on and so forth.

Got it?

I'm not writing about my project to brag about little good deeds I should already be doing... it's more to keep myself on track. But I would LOVE it if some of you decided to do it with me. We don't have to choose the same things to work on, just commit to a week of baby-step improvements.

Any takers?

Ooh, this is just what I need to get me out of my blahs. Excellent. When do we start?

I'm starting tomorrow (Thursday, November 12), so if you want to join in, too, that would be great!

I would like to participate in this but the things I've been meaning to improve upon aren't those that can be done three times.

So... my adjustment is that every day, I will do something I've been putting off for one reason or another (mostly laziness).

For example, tomorrow I might finish my research paper. MIGHT.

I want you to know that while researching my paper today and hitting another dead end with a potential source, I said out loud, "I AM too pretty for this!"

Then I smiled.

I thought you'd be proud.

I've recently fouled up big time with someone dearly important to me. This sounds like a great idea to put into practice. I'll start today.

Keeping track of things you need or would like to do is sometimes hard, by publishing or letting it out you kind of achieve that, knowing that you're not only keeping a goal to yourself, but you're stating that it's something you are going to do, textually self-assuring yourself of your aim.

So, thanks for sharing, I think this is something everyone should do, not only to live better lives, but to share better lives with other people and in turn they would share better lives with you, and the rest of society.

it's a really great idea. I'm scared of commitment so really, I should start with that and make this my first of three commitments. shudder*

It's a really great way to become and try to stay aware ...especially when life is just so consuming. I'm giving it a shot ;)

Such a great idea. I can think of so many things I need to work on that it seems daunting, but to be better three times doesn't seem too hard. Thanks for the advice!

I really love this idea and try to do it too, just never put it into words like you did, with the whole 3 times in a row. It's an awesome idea.

Thank you for coming by recently. I have been playing catch up ever since!!!!

Oh wait, I'm in!!! Damn, but I'm two days late. Gotta play catch up!

Areas of my life that are a mess... where to begin!

- I'll get my finances in order by actually - ahem - listing out my finances

- I'll improve my bad blogging by reading 3 new blogs a day and 3 old faves a day

- I'll start cooking dinners instead of eating soup every night. I love to cook so why am I not?!?!

- I'll make an effort to make new friends in my new town... where I know no one. This one sucks. A lot. And I don't know how I'll do it...

More to come, off to play catch up ;)

Sounds great! I'm actually working on something like this with my finances and school life- I need to work on getting some new friends in this town, but otherwise I think I'm doing well. It's hard being an adult...and I graduated from college like 5 years ago! LOL!

Oh, and someone mentioned the blog reading...I CANNOT keep up! I just have so many blogs that I enjoy and I'm pretty sure that if I sat here 24/7 I could just read and read and read...but I don't want to drop any, kwim?
