5 Songs For Instant Energy

With all the cleaning and packing and goodbyes lately, I've needed music playing constantly. If you're anything like me, the right music can get you moving and energized.

Unfortunately for me, the wrong music can have me watery-eyed and wandering aimlessly around my apartment, a box of Kleenex under one arm and the other shoveling food in my mouth.

Even if you aren't moving, the holidays can be stressful. The end of the school term can be stressful. Hey, LIFE is stressful. So today I thought I'd share with you five songs that give me that extra push into positivity.

Not a Springsteen fan as a general rule, but I love this song.

"I don't think they can handle this!" Oh, but I can.

Is this a surprise?

I've never understood the "shaggy dress," but other than that... it's superb.

Just makes me feel wonderful.

Tell me in the comments: what songs make your day better?

Pretty much an song from the 80's. I'm just dorky like that.

I love 80s music, too! It's especially good for long drives, I think.

Hold on because I've got many words to make:

I can't quite express how much I adore "Bootylicious" and "Baby Got Back". Few things make me feel more white, but it doesn't even matter.

"Try A Little Tenderness" always makes me think of Bull Durham, which is one of my favorite movies.

I like female empowerment songs, I have to say. So that usually comes down to Alicia Keyes' "Go Ahead", Beyonce's "Freakum dress" and Christina Aguilera's "Dirrrty".

Okay, this isn't normally a song I would play because I needed to lift my mood, but for the past two days my hub and I keep singing, "All the single ladies! All the single ladies! All the single ladies! All the single ladies! ... if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it ... if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it ... " Courtesy of Beyonce, of course. Keeps cracking us up. :)

But normally to lift my mood and get me dancing all around the house, I'll go with Alicia Keys's "No One."

"Try a Little Tenderness" makes me think of Pretty in Pink and Ducky. That's enough to make anyone happy.

My happy, sing-in-the-car song right now it Lady Gaga "Bad Romance" and anything Dave Matthews Band, especially their newest album "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King."
